IB 5-year Review

Our IB World School is currently completing our Diploma program self-study due December 2015.  We are excited about the opportunity to reflect on how we have implemented the IB program at Smoky Hill.   A link to the parent survey can be found on the IB page under announcements on the Smoky Hill website.  All parents of current IB juniors and seniors and parents of graduates 2010-2015 are encouraged to share their thoughts about our program.  Surveys will close October 1, 2015.

IB Parent Meetings

Smoky Hill IB Parent Association (SHIBPA) will meet in room I-46 starting at 7:00 p.m.  Our first meeting is Tuesday, September 8th . Other meetings are scheduled for November 10th, January 12th, March 8th  and May 10th.   SHIBPA coordinates with SHHS IB Program to have speakers present on various topics involving IB.  Maria Hwang, SHIBPA president says, "I personally have found these meetings to be very informative, especially when my child "forgets" to keep me in the loop!"   SHIBPA also sponsors various events: providing food for teacher meetings, Extended Essay Night, and IB Oasis during finals week.  Please join us for our first meeting and learn how you can be part of the IB family at Smoky Hill!

IB Senior Hike at Chautauqua Park in Boulder

This year, our annual hike took place at Chautauqua Park in Boulder.  Twenty-seven seniors joined our IB staff on July 28th climbing in teams and encouraging one another when the trail became tough.  Although reaching the summit at the Royal Arch and taking in the panoramic view of the University of Colorado's campus below was the ultimate goal for our day, our seniors learned valuable lessons about perseverance, goal setting, determination and cooperation.  The hike has become a great metaphor for the senior year in IB!

IB Boot Camp

Our senior IB mentors welcomed 143 new MYP freshmen to Smoky Hill with fun and games followed by an ice cream social and their first class picture!  This annual event helps ease the transition to high school by acquainting our freshman to our IB culture and inviting them to become active members in our community of learners.  Welcome IB Diploma Class of 2019!

Ethical Pledge

New to the check-in packet was the IB Ethical Pledge.  If you missed it, please download a copy from the IB page on the Smoky Hill website, read, sign and have your student drop it off at the IB Office ASAP.   Mrs. Paricio and Mrs. Wetmore will personally meet with any students who haven't signed their pledge.

IB Exam Registration

Parents of juniors and seniors!  The November IB exam registration period is still a few months away, but it will be here before you know it.  In June you received a letter regarding examination fees.  You should have received a second letter with exam registration meeting dates.  If you did not receive these letters, please contact the IB office ASAP.   Registration meetings are mandatory for first time test takers (juniors and seniors) and optional for those who tested during the May 2015 examination session.
