Welcome back to the start of a new year and a new semester at Smoky Hill High School.  In addition to the academic transition from first to second semester, there are many important events that occur during this time which impact members of each class.  Several of those events are listed below:

  • All freshmen and sophomores are scheduled to take the TCAP tests on March 12 – 14.  In addition to being used to calculate Smoky Hill’s overall school performance, TCAP results will continue to be included in a student’s permanent file and transcripts.  Results may be used in determining appropriate course placement for the individual student.

  • Freshmen, sophomores and juniors will begin the pre-registration process for the 2013-2014 school year this month.  Working in partnership with your student’s teachers and counselors we ask that you actively participate in the planning and selection of courses that will help prepare your student for academic success at a four year college.

  • To facilitate communication and ensure the academic success of all students, Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Tuesday, March 26th, from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m.  This is a great opportunity for you to touch base with your student’s teachers, counselor and dean.

  • Juniors are scheduled to take the state mandated ACT on Tuesday, April 23rd.  Begin preparing today by using Method Test Prep in Naviance.  It is a great way to start practicing test-taking strategies for both the ACT and SAT.

  • As seniors prepare for their final semester, planning for graduation is underway.  Seniors, parents and counselors need to collaborate closely to ensure that all graduation requirements are completed.  The 2013 Graduation Ceremony will be held at the University of Denver Ritchie Center on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at 4:00 p.m.

I wish you all the very best in 2013!
