Congratulations to Director Tim Brown, Choreographer Lisa Wood, Music Directors Mike Grant and Darren Wirth, Set Designer Steven Bartu and the entire the cast and crew of West Side Story. After wowing the audience at sell-out performances here at SHHS, they took their show on the road! The production was selected as a main stage performance at the annual Colorado Thespian Conference, held at the Colorado Convention Center on December 9th. The audience of over 3500 students and directors raved about the singing, dancing, set design and impressive technical elements. The honor of performing at the Wells Fargo Theater was the perfect bonus for months of hard work and an experience the students will never forget.

ORCHESTRA NEWS

Congratulations to the twelve Smoky Hill string players who were accepted into the Cherry Creek District Honor Orchestra!  These students successfully auditioned for the group, which consists of the top players from each of the CCSD High Schools.  These students will rehearse and perform over the weekend of January 20 -21 at Grandview High School, under the baton of Maestro Richard Niezen, who is the musical director of the Aurora Symphony Orchestra.  The following students were accepted: Stephany Camacho-Lara (12), Trinity Cerza (9), Mikayla Guzman (10), Joshua Hamblin (12), Jiyoon Kim (12), Mary Nguyen (10), Yeram Park (9), Sara Patterson (11),  Heaven Roberts (11), Nicole Roos (9), Caleb Suresh (10), and Megan Yeung (10).

We would also like to congratulate Jiyoon Kim (cello), Sara Patterson (cello), Melody Su (violin), and Connie Chang (flute) on their acceptance to the 2012 All State Orchestra Festival!  This annual event accepts around 100 of the finest string players from the state of Colorado, and takes place the weekend of February 9-11 on the CSU campus in Fort Collins.  This year, students will have the opportunity to study with Dr. Robert Culver, Maestro Robert Moody, and the string faculty of CSU.  Please congratulate these young ladies on this incredible accomplishment!
