ORCHESTRA NEWS
On the evening of March 1st, the SHHS Symphony Orchestra will have the privilege of performing the Beethoven Triple Concerto with the internationally-acclaimed Lehnert Trio.  This is not the first time this talented trio has performed at Smoky Hill; they performed the 1st movement of this same work in April of 2007, and two of the members performed the notoriously-difficult Brahms Double Concerto with the SHHS Symphony Orchestra in 2010.  The group enjoys working with our young musicians at Smoky Hill, so they are back to play the 2nd and 3rd movements of the Beethoven Triple!

The Lehnert Trio usually performs as a standard piano trio: violin, cello and piano.  Although some music has been written for a trio of violin, viola and cello, there is a staggering amount of repertoire written for the former instrumentation.  Pianist Doris Lehnert made her debut at age 9, having won the UCLA Young Artist Competition.  She is currently a Professor of Piano at the University of Colorado-Boulder, and continues to perform internationally.  Violinist Oswald Lehnert made his solo debut with the Chicago Symphony at the age of 14, served as the Music Director and Conductor of the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra for 24 years, and is also Professor of Violin at CU-Boulder.  Cellist Oswald Lehnert, Jr.  studied at University of Colorado and the Julliard School of Music, having made his debut with the Denver Symphony after winning the CU Concerto Competition as a student.  Touring with the Premiat Trio, he has performed in Singapore, Rio, Banff, Caracas, and throughout the United States.

The March 1st concert will feature performances by both the SHHS String and Symphony Orchestra, culminating with the last two movements of the Beethoven Triple.  This concert is ABSOLUTELY FREE and we would love to have your support for our students on this incredible evening!

Concert Information:  Thursday, March 1st , at 7:15 p.m. in the SHHS Auditorium
