PSAT: (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test)

Who:               Sophomores and Juniors

Why:               The PSAT/NMSQT is the first step towards qualifying for the National Merit scholarship program.  It is also great practice for other standardized college entrance exams.

When:             Saturday, October 18, 2014  

Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. in Activities Hall

BRING YOUR SCHOOL ID FOR CHECK IN

(There are no admission tickets)

Where:           Smoky Hill High School Activities Hall

Cost:               $25.00 cash, check or credit card

Registration:  Payment can be made at check in as part of your fees or you can register and pay in Post Grad.

Bring No. 2 pencils and approved calculator.

Test Prep:

Sycamore Learning Company will be conducting a PSAT/SAT Preparation Seminar on September 29 and September 30, 2014 from 3:15 - 5:45 p.m. in the Post Grad Center.  In the 5-hour seminar, students will learn about all sections of the PSAT /SAT, take shortened practice tests to get used to the types of questions on the test, and be provided with a multitude of tips and strategies to help them on each section of the test. Included in the $89.00 price of the seminar is an extensive study guide full of tips and strategies, as well as many practice tests with detailed answer explanations.  Register at www.sycamorelearning.com or call toll free 866-223-9691.


Seniors

Please be aware of deadlines!  The Post Grad Center requires at least 5 working days to process transcripts.  School breaks and holidays are not considered working days.  You can find college deadlines online or stop by the Post Grad Center.

College representatives will be visiting Smoky Hill this fall.  Please come to the Post Grad Center and meet with the college admission officers and ask questions specific to their institution.  See the list of visiting colleges on Naviance.

Mountain Vista High School

*Workshops on scholarships, NCAA Eligibility, financial aid, and applying to a private school will be held throughout the fair

Wednesday, October 15th, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. - Out-of-State College Night

Monarch High School

*Financial aid presentation from 5:15pm-6:00pm

Thursday, October 16th, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. - In-State and Out-of-State College and Scholarship Fair

John F. Kennedy High School

*Colorado ASSET Bill presentation from 5:00 - 5:30 p.m. and  financial aid presentation from 5:30 - 6:00 p.m.

Please note that these fairs are automated, which means that many of the college representatives will have scanners.  Students who register at GoToCollegeFairs.com can print out a bar code they can bring with them to the fair, which colleges can scan, rather than filling out information cards at each table.  If students will be attending more than one automated fair this fall, they only need to register once and can select multiple fairs.
