February Celebrations
As we move into February— a time when we honor Black History Month and celebrate the Lunar New Year— We are especially grateful for the many cultures, stories, and perspectives that shape our classrooms and our school community.
Eye Love Care Vision Program Event Dates
February 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, & 13th
We’re excited to share that Eye Love Care, a local optometry practice, will be visiting our school to provide comprehensive eye exams and prescription glasses to students—at no out-of-pocket cost.
👓 Program Highlights:

All students are encouraged to participate, including those with good vision who wish to monitor their eye health.

If glasses are needed, students can choose their own frames.

Glasses will include impact-resistant lenses and blue-blocking anti-glare coating, delivered to the school within 2–3 weeks.

Black History Month - Spirit Week
Happy Black History Month to all! This year is extra special because it marks the 50th year of celebrating Black History Month. Led by author and historian, Carter G. Woodson, Black History Month began as Negro History Week in February 1926, then became recognized across the United States by President Gerald Ford on February 10th, 1976, largely due to efforts led by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History.
Smoky Hill's Black Student Union has met consistently this year, working to build community amongst each other and plan for how we'll share this with the larger Smoky community. We are excited to share this year's Black History Month Spirit Week, which will take place February 23rd through February 27th. Please see the attached flyer for further details and expect to see more coming soon. We hope that you will join us in celebrating hundreds of years of Black history and culture, as well as 50 powerful years of Black History Month.

2026-2027 Course Selection
Current Smoky Hill Students (Grades 9–11)
All 9th–11th grade students will register online via PowerSchool between February 2–17.
Course Selection for current Smoky Hill students in grades 9–11 (click here)
Course verification meetings with students, conducted by SHHS Counseling, will take place from February 21 through March 15.
Incoming 9th Grade Students (Current 8th Graders)
All 8th grade students will register online via PowerSchool between January 20–30.

CCIC & Pathways at Overland 2026-27 Application Open
Find your Pathway of Purpose!
Apply to pathways at CCIC and Pathways at Overland from January 6th - February 13th for the 2026-27 school year.
CCSD students entering grades 10-12 are invited to apply. Students will be notified of placement in March.

Cherry Creek Schools: School Choice Application
Lottery Schedule for 2026-2027 School Year
A Priority Round will occur on February 27, 2026 and include all applications submitted through January 31st.
Applications submitted February 1st through the May 31st deadline will be added to the waitlist, unless the school has available seats for the requested grade level.
Lottery Results
Parents/Guardians will be emailed at 4pm MT on February 27th for the priority lottery round.
Results for applications received after the deadline for the priority round will be emailed on the first Friday of the following month. Seats will only be offered if the school still has availability; all other applicants will be waitlisted.

Finishing high school and applying to college isn't an easy process, but some high schoolers in the Cherry Creek School District are working to make it easier.
