Principal's Message

Dear Smoky Hill Parents and Students,

Welcome to the 2025–2026 school year! I hope your summer was filled with rest, joy, and special moments with family and friends. As we begin another exciting chapter at Smoky Hill High School, I want to share how honored I am to be part of a community that values growth, connection, and excellence.

This year, we’re not just returning to school—we’re recharging, refocusing, and reigniting our shared commitment to preparing every student to thrive in a dynamic 21st-century world. I want to share a few key focus areas that will guide our work together this year:

A Culture of Academic Excellence - We are dedicated to challenging, supporting, and inspiring every student to reach their highest academic potential. Excellence is not a one-time act—it’s a culture, and at Smoky Hill, it begins with all of us.

Grade-Level Reading Proficiency by 2030 - In partnership with our school district, we are committed to ensuring that every 9th, 10th, and 11th grader reads at or above grade level by 2030. Literacy is a foundation for opportunity, and we will work together to meet this goal.

A Strong Sense of Belonging - Every student at Smoky Hill should feel safe, valued, and connected. We’re focused on building a school culture where meaningful relationships, inclusive practices, and genuine care create a deep sense of belonging for all.

Eliminating Disproportionality in Attendance - We acknowledge the existing disparities and are committed to addressing them. This year, we aim to eliminate disproportionality in chronic absenteeism and truancy so that every student has the support they need to attend, engage, and succeed.

We have big goals—and the belief that with our incredible students, dedicated families, and passionate educators, there’s nothing we can’t achieve together. I invite you to bring your voice, your energy, and your commitment to this school year as we continue to grow as ONE HERD.

I look forward to seeing our students back in the hallways, hearing stories from the summer, and celebrating the beginning of what’s sure to be an outstanding year as Buffs!

With gratitude and excitement,
